- National Youth Service Day Events (9:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m. time slot)
Greater Philadelphia Cares will serve as the region's Lead Agency, hosting a local
celebration of National Youth Service Day (NYSD). Coordinated by Youth Service America,
NYSD is the nation's largest service event showcasing the incredible talent and
leadership potential of youth. Youth, ages 5 to 25, will participate in exciting
activities throughout the Greater Philadelphia region, gaining a better understanding
of citizenship and beginning a lifelong path of service and community engagement. In
partnership with youth leaders and youth service workers, Greater Philadelphia Cares
is developing projects in the following issue areas: community development/anti-blight
initiatives, homelessness and hunger, the environment, education/literacy, seniors,
people living with disabilities, people living with HIV/ AIDS, and animals. These model
projects will then be adapted to various locations throughout the Greater Philadelphia

- Manna with Circle K (5:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m.)
Circle K members will be participating in Manna. Volunteers will prepare food for
Philadelphia patients who have HIV and AIDS. One of Circle K's favorite projects
because the environment and volunteers are very social and entertaining! For more

- National Youth Service Day Cleanup with Gamma Sigma Sigma (3-7 p.m.)
The womens' service sorority will be hosting an outdoor cleanup in Philadelphia.
This project is for women only! Be sure to wear clothes that are ready to get dirty!

- Women Against Abuse Project with Gamma Sigma Sigma (5:30-7:30)
Help sort and take inventory of donated clothing for the women and children served
by this important organization which helps keep families safe. This project is for

- Large Scale Cleanup Project (12:00-4:00 p.m.)
Service Organization Summit will be hosting an outdoor cleanup project at Cobbs Creek.
Cobbs Creek is located at the tip of Philadelphia; an area plagued by urban blight. 50
student volunteers will have the opportunity to cleanup this community and attack urban
blight head on! Their will be free transportation to and from the event along with free
food as well. THIS EVENT REQUIRES RSVP! For more information contact

- Youth Service Days Kickoff (9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.)
Mark your calendars for the Celebration Event to kick-off National Youth Service Day.
Event takes place at City Hall. Free food, giveaways and live speakers.

- Red Cross Walk with Gamma Sigma Sigma
The women of this service sorority will be walking for increasing the awareness of the
Red Cross organization. STEP UP to helping your Red Cross and STEP OUT to Fairmount Park.
Join us and our Honorary Chairman Pat Croce for the third annual 12K Red Cross Walk in
Fairmount Park, Philadelphia on April 16. There will be thousands of people from the
community joining in healthy exercise and supporting our Red Cross of Southeastern
Pennsylvania. Family-friendly activities, food, accommodations for your family dog, and
camaraderie will all be part of the fun!
- Rebuilding Together (12-4 p.m.)
This group renovates old, run-down homes and makes them available for Philadelphian
families who are in desperate need of a house. Project takes place right near the Drexel

Help transitioning women to make a good first impression with employers by sizing and
sorting donated professional clothes for women returning to the workforce. This is for

- CEO Workshop (6:00-7:30 p.m. in Creese 226)
Interested in performing community service? Have a zeal for community service? Have any
thoughts and concerns about the problems that plague Philadelphia? Interested in making
Philadelphia a better place? If you answered yes to any of these questions then come out
to this workshop. Betty Palios, a member of Greater Philadelphia Cares, will be the guest
