What's New on the wiki
In a groundbreaking address last Thursday, former Vice President Al Gore issued what he dubbed "A Generational Challenge to Repower America." Rejecting the lame excuses and half measures that have dominated the political discourse of the day, Gore called on America to produce electricity from only renewable and carbon-free sources within ten years.
"This is a generational moment," the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize winner asserted, "A moment when we decide our own path and our collective fate. I'm asking you - each of you - to join me and build this future."
Gore's bold and visionary goal of a carbon-free America by 2018 was touted as "achievable" by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who asserted that "I have confidence that we will succeed because of confidence in young people. Young people understand it so much better."
Indeed. This November, young Americans will rise to the challenge of creating a clean and just energy future by going to the polls in record numbers. Energy Action Coalition's Power Vote campaign is working to mobilize 1 million young voters to demand bold federal climate legislation, a moratorium on coal and other dirty energy, and the creation of millions of good jobs in the green economy!
This is your moment. Power Vote needs you!
1. This is your last chance to register for our amazing August mega training camp. We have a handful of spots and scholarships left that will help you connect with other youth leaders from around the country and get you the skills you need to make history this Fall. http://energyactioncoalition.org/powervote/summer/megatraining
2. Go to PowerVote.org. Sign the pledge and commit to becoming a leader this Fall to make sure that young people not only vote in record numbers on election day, but that we force our candidates, up and down the ticket to address climate change head on. www.powervote.org
3. Donate today to support the youth climate movement's ambitious plans. https://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/614/t/5737/shop/custom.jsp?donate_page_KEY=3766. Thank you to everyone who donated last week. This is our movement. We need to fund it.
4. Mark your calendar and come to Power Shift 2009 on February 27- March 2, 2009.
Thank you, Jessy, Arthur, Brianna, Kassie, Ragini, Whit, Josh, Madeline, and the whole Energy Action team
