These are from UVM's Tour de Hempfield, 3/17/2001. We're pretty sure someone from UVM spent a fair bit of time looking for a place with a name like this to hold the race. Special thanks goes to Justin May from PSU Cycling for these pictures. He went looking through their archives to find pictures of us after he saw a message from me on the conference mailing list asking about a photographer we saw at one of the other weekends.

Lou, Rob, and Joe finishing up the road race of the Tour de Hempfield weekend. That's Lou up front taking first place, Rob gettin' his sprint on for 5th, and Joe hanging on for 8th.

Rob's the guy in the middle with the yellow bike and sprint posture. He forgot to bring along his Drexel jersey, so he's got on a white jersey from some bike shop. Lou's up front battling with the little cluster of riders trying to catch him. He claims he had been perfectly happy to draft behind one of the other guys to get second place, but then he saw a UPenn rider coming up from behind about to pass them. Obviously that would be unacceptable, so he took off to grab the win.

Meanwhile, I've been doing a fair job of hanging with the leaders the whole race and keeping in touch with Rob and Lou. Unfortunately, coming up the last hill I got a mean cramp and couldn't really keep up the pace anymore. You see me here just sort of coasting in, praying for the race to end before too many others guys catch me.
