These are some photos from basically the second year of the club's existence. Note the sudden appearance of jersies and more people.

Just how many engineers does it take to assemble Matt's bike? I count four!

Matt Shafer relates this about the picture:
The "problems" shot brought back some memories!!.. Damn.. It was my first mtn bike, (a '93 Chinelli, a pretty rare ride - I'm sure you'd recognize that name for road bikes) which I'd bought used for $250 the spring of freshman year. That race was only my second the fall of my sophomore year---the first with a new Manatou front fork, it was previously rigid.

Also there is Frank D. doing the work with myself and Shawn Docerty and Robert sitting with Frank's old Marin. Good times!
The picture is from Easterns at New Hampshire in 1997.

For a long time this was our only road picture. Legend has it that this picture wasn't even taken by someone who went with the team. Instead, a girl who happenned to go to Drexel went to the race to see the PennState rider on the right, realized the guy (Rob) passing the dude was an RA in Kelly Hall and gave Rob the picture the next time she saw him. So, it's a total fluke that we have any road pictures from this early on.

Don't you feel sorry for the dude way, way in the back, visible between the two spectators?

An early picture of Lou from the U. Mass race at Amhurst in 1998. The bike's affectionately referred to in team lore as "Old Blue."

This a pic of Melinda from the same race. Notice the red jerseys created for 1998. The team was being sponsored by a shop, Mainly Bikes, at the time and their colors are red and white. One condition on having them help out with getting jersies printed was that we use their colors. It also made things cheaper as the printing company already had the background pattern.
